Barrel Eye Fish: An unbelievable fish with a see-through skull
Posted by admin in Breaking News on February 26th, 2009
Some researchers revealed today the fish that has become a mystery for 50 years. The fish has a transparent head and barrel eyes which allowed it to see in 360 degrees. Below are the quotes from the press release:
Researchers at the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute recently solved the half-century-old mystery of a fish with tubular eyes and a transparent head. Ever since the “barreleye” fish Macropinna microstoma was first described in 1939, marine biologists have known that it’s tubular eyes are very good at collecting light. However, the eyes were believed to be fixed in place and seemed to provide only a “tunnel-vision” view of whatever was directly above the fish’s head. A new paper by Bruce Robison and Kim Reisenbichler shows that these unusual eyes can rotate within a transparent shield that covers the fish’s head. This allows the barreleye to peer up at potential prey or focus forward to see what it is eating.
Most existing descriptions and illustrations of this fish do not show its fluid-filled shield, probably because this fragile structure was destroyed when the fish were brought up from the deep in nets. However, Robison and Reisenbichler were extremely fortunate–they were able to bring a net-caught barreleye to the surface alive, where it survived for several hours in a ship-board aquarium. Within this controlled environment, the researchers were able to confirm what they had seen in the ROV video–the fish rotated its tubular eyes as it turned its body from a horizontal to a vertical position.

Buldak, Korean Spicy Chicken

Buldak is a spicy chicken dish that has become popular these days among young people in Korea. Its popularity comes from the unique flavor and aroma. In Korean language, the word “bul” means fire, and “dak” means chicken, so it should set your tongue on fire.
New restaurants specializing in Buldak have sprung up as this rather new delicacy grows in popularity. They serve it in varying intensity of spiciness so everyone can enjoy it. It is also usually served with cube-shaped radish and onions.
Buldak can be served boneless and finger-sized, or as wings or drumsticks. Flavor and spiciness could vary among places.

Bikini Bodybuilder and a rubix cube
Posted by admin in Extraordinary, Funny on January 27th, 2009
If anyone knows what this video is all about, please tell me. I have a few hypothesis of what this might be:
- Some kind of propaganda that suggests that muscled people have brains.
- Solving rubix cube while wearing a bikini is easy. So easy that you can even dance to the music.
- Solving rubix cube while dancing builds your muscle.
Kung-Fu Chef Review
Posted by admin in Movie Theater on January 26th, 2009
![]()
The movie tells the story of two men who love cooking and eventually became famous chefs.
This movie tries to hard to be funny. And when it comes for the time to be serious, it fails.
In a scene where they are making sashimi from a fish from the aquarium, the fish was still swimming happily while the bones are exposed where the flesh had been pulled off.
There were times when people were laughing because the scenes were too unrealistic.
As a conclusion, the movie fails to explain how and why the necessity of both kung fu and cooking skill in a chef.

Modern Day American Anthem
Posted by admin in Breaking News on January 19th, 2009
A song by Will.i.am and David Foster which, I think, is perfect to be an anthem to a country. It is full of patriotic lines that even a non-american like me can appreciate. Parts of the lyric were taken from Obama’s speech. I’m not sure if other president’s speeches were also included. Together with Will.i.am, some other famous artists perform this song. They are Mary J. Blige, Bono, Seal, and Faith Hill. Listen to this:
